Tekno Surgical Shortlisted for Most Innovative Product

Tekno Surgical are delighted to have been shortlisted for the "Most Innovative Product Multinational"

IMSTA Recognises the Best in the MedTech Supply Industry in Ireland

Joe Schmidt, helped celebrate IMSTA’s Annual Awards Night in Croke Park (Thursday the 28th) which honoured the best Medical Technology innovations and achievements in use in Ireland. This included small SME’s like Beats Medical and large multi-nationals including Abbott Diabetes Care, Smith & Nephew and Becton Dickinson. As well as featuring the awards’ first double-winner Carefolk.

“For the first time ever we have one company wining two awards,” said Justin Carty, Chief Executive, IMSTA. “And it is an Irish company who have created software that helps manage care in the home, keeping people out of hospital and providing them with better care.”

Trends in medical technology are being matched in this year’s awards with a move towards eHealth/Digital Health applications. Five out of nine award winners are IT/software based healthcare solutions, two of which manage care in the home and another two are process driven to manage safety and reduce risk. Only three of the awards are for actual medical devices reinforcing the idea that ‘medical technology’ is much broader than just devices.

“These awards show that Ireland can and should be proud of its medical devices sector,” stated Carty. “Six of the winners are Irish companies or organisations. As our guest on the evening, Joe Schmidt, proved, the Irish can win anywhere against anyone and that is certainly the case when it comes to medical technology.”

Overall the award winners are very much aligned with major health burdens e.g. diabetes, mental health, homecare, Parkinson’s, improved patient safety, reducing infections and reducing medication errors, all stated priority areas for the health system in Ireland.

IMSTA as the representative body for the Medical Technology supply industry in Ireland provides a forum for the development and advocacy of policies that support innovation in medical technology to address patients’ healthcare needs. Their members provide safe, effective and innovative medical technologies that save and enhance lives, benefiting people and society.

The MedTech sector employs over 30,000 highly skilled people and exports over €12.5 billion worth of medical devices annually.
